Terms and Conditions
The LSE Dating App ยท Last updated: October 2026
Please read these Terms and Conditions ("Terms") carefully before using The LSE Dating App (the "Service"). By creating an account, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
The LSE Dating App is an independent initiative and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
TL;DR (the short version)
You must be 18+, have a valid @lse.ac.uk email, and be a real person, no bots, no fake profiles
Your profile photo gets manually checked by us before it goes live, so keep it real and recent
Opt in each week before the deadline (Tuesday 11:59pm) to get a match by Thursday, matched by an actual human on our team, not an algorithm
Be kind. Don't ghost, don't harass, don't misrepresent yourself. We'll remove accounts that break this
You're responsible for your own safety when meeting a match, meet in public, tell a friend, trust your gut
You can delete your account any time, or just pause by not opting in
Full legal detail is below, but that's the gist
Please note: this document is a starting template based on how the Service currently works. It is not a substitute for legal advice, and we'd strongly recommend having a solicitor review it before publishing it live, particularly the liability, conduct, and eligibility sections, since a dating service carries real-world safety and legal considerations.
1. Eligibility
The LSE Dating App is an independent initiative and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
To use The LSE Dating App, you must:
Be at least 18 years old
Hold a valid, currently active LSE email address (@lse.ac.uk)
Be a genuine, real individual (not a bot, business, or fictional persona)
Provide accurate and truthful information in your profile and questionnaire
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that we reasonably believe do not meet these requirements.
2. Account Registration
When creating an account, you agree to:
Provide accurate, current, and complete information
Upload a genuine, recent, unedited photo of yourself, which will be manually reviewed before your profile goes live
Keep your login details secure and not share your account with others
Notify us if you believe your account has been compromised
We reserve the right to reject or remove any profile photo that does not clearly show a real person, or that we reasonably believe is not an accurate, current representation of the user.
3. How Matching Works
Each week, you may choose to "opt in" before the weekly deadline (currently Tuesday, 11:59pm UK time) to be considered for that week's match
Matching is performed manually by our admin team, based on your questionnaire answers. The LSE Dating App does not use an automated matching algorithm
If you opt in, we aim to notify you of your match by Thursday of that week
Editing your questionnaire answers is only possible before the weekly deadline; after this point, your answers are locked for that week's matching round
We do not guarantee that opting in will result in a match every week, particularly depending on the number and profile of other users who have opted in
While we make every reasonable effort to respect exclusions submitted in the questionnaire (e.g. specific individuals you ask not to be matched with), we cannot guarantee 100% exclusion due to name variations, nicknames, or spelling discrepancies
4. User Conduct
By using The LSE Dating App, you agree that you will:
Treat other users with kindness, honesty, and respect
Not use the Service to harass, abuse, deceive, or exploit any other user
Not impersonate any other person, or misrepresent your identity, age, or intentions
Not use the Service for any commercial, promotional, or unlawful purpose
Not attempt to circumvent the Service's matching or verification processes
Not screenshot, record, share, or circulate any other user's profile, photographs, questionnaire answers, or contact details on social media, group chats, or any public or private forum. Breaching fellow students' privacy will result in immediate and permanent removal from the Service
We reserve the right to suspend or permanently remove any account that we reasonably believe violates these standards, at our sole discretion.
A note on our culture: The LSE Dating App was built to be a kinder alternative to typical dating apps. We ask that you engage with your matches respectfully, and avoid "ghosting" wherever possible. While we cannot control how individual users interact once matched, we take user conduct seriously and encourage you to report any concerning behaviour to us directly.
5. Safety
While we require a valid @lse.ac.uk email, SMS verification, and a live pose selfie, The LSE Dating App does NOT conduct criminal record checks, DBS checks, or character background checks on its users.
Once matched, all off-platform communication (such as messaging over WhatsApp or other channels) and any in-person meetings take place entirely at your own risk. The Service has no oversight, monitoring, or control over off-platform interactions.
In an emergency or if you ever feel threatened, immediately contact emergency services (999) or LSE Campus Security (020 7955 6200 / 020 7955 6555 in an emergency) rather than relying on app reporting.
You are responsible for your own safety when meeting a match in person. We recommend:
Meeting in a public place, particularly for a first meeting
Telling a friend where you're going and who you're meeting
Trusting your own judgement, and disengaging from any interaction that makes you feel unsafe
The LSE Dating App is not liable for the conduct of any user, on or off the platform, or for any interactions, meetings, or relationships that result from use of the Service.
6. Account Deletion
You may delete your account at any time. Alternatively, rather than deleting your account, you may choose to simply stop opting in to weekly matching, which allows you to preserve your match history (so you are not re-matched with someone you've already met) if you decide to return in future.
Upon account deletion, your personal data will be handled as set out in our Privacy Policy.
7. Intellectual Property
All content, branding, and functionality of the Service (excluding user-submitted content such as your profile photo and questionnaire answers) is owned by The LSE Dating App. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute any part of the Service without our prior written consent.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The LSE Dating App and its team are not liable for:
Any interactions, meetings, or relationships arising from use of the Service
Any loss, harm, or damages resulting from your use of the Service, including but not limited to emotional distress, financial loss, or personal injury
Any downtime, errors, or interruptions to the Service
You assume full personal responsibility for any interactions, meetings, or outcomes arising from your use of the Service, and you release The LSE Dating App and its team from any claims relating to physical harm, emotional distress, harassment, or financial loss.
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
9. Changes to the Service and These Terms
We may update these Terms, or modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it), at any time. If we make material changes to these Terms, we will notify users (e.g. via email) before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
11. Contact Us
